Appreciating Francisco Liriano’s No-Hitter | FanGraphs Baseball

For anyone who enriched themselves with my 2011 post on Francisco Liriano's No-Hitter, this Fangraphs piece serves as a nice postscript, albiet 6 years later. Dave Cameron's excellent report wears well and true. He was the "boots on the ground" man reporting the day after the event, and he takes a nice, fair approach in putting that game in its proper perspective.

I like to think it complements the one I did in its congratulatory tone, but also in its frank admission (LOL!) that Frankie's centerpiece effort was by no means sterling. Which, in a way, makes it actually kind of unique - let's see you throw a no-hitter AND win the game by offering 6 walks, and striking out only two.

Francisco Liriano may yet end up on a championship ballclub, or win a Cy Young award at the tender age of 33, by the way. Don't laugh. Steve Stone was the 1980 CYA winner when he was 32, after years of  journeyman-like, undistinguished pitching to a .500 level record.
